3D Shoe Repairs History

The Sanderson family first opened a shoe repair shop in Mapperley, Nottingham 35 years ago. David Sanderson a trained cobbler began serving the local residents of Mapperley in 1979 from his premises on Woodborough Road trading under the name of 3D Group.

Mr & Mrs Sanderson moved the business premises from Woodborough Road to the current premises on Westdale Lane, Mapperley, Nottingham. They began offering household key cutting alongside shoe repairs. And Joblot Trophies, a trophy shop and engravers also owned by the Sandersons moved into the property next door.

The eldest son Dan Sanderson finished school and began to work for the family business. He noticed a demand for replacement car key cutting and began to look into the technology of this.

3D Group began to invest heavily in the machinery required to cut and program vehicle keys. The Westdale Lane premises then began offering replacement vehicle keys as one of its services alongside shoe repairs and household key cutting.

Demand for vehicle key services began to increase and the Sanderson family realised that a mobile auto locksmith service would serve customers better. A Smart car was purchased and kitted out with the equipment needed to do auto locksmith tasks and Dan went out and about across Nottinghamshire as a mobile auto locksmith. 3D Autokeys was born. 3D Group continued to offer shoe Repairs & Household Key cutting from the premises in Westdale Lane.

The Sandersons realised that there was a gap in the market for a trade supplier that stocked all of the elements needed to supply vehicle keys & remotes. They rented the office space above the 3D Group premises on Westdale Lane and began supplying to trade whilst continuing to serve the local customers through the retail premises.

3D Groups wholesale company had become so successful that more space for a warehouse and more staff were needed. They vacated the office space they had above the shop and moved the wholesale business to purpose built premises on Clarence Street. The retail premises remained open.

February - After many years of operating from 465 Westdale Lane Mapperley the trophy shop moved from the small retail premises next door to 3D Group to larger premises around the corner at 966 Woodborough Road. The trophy shop received a minor name change and complete re-brand to become Joblot Trophies & Gifts.

June - With the property next door now vacant the Sandersons seized the opportunity to expand the Shoe Repair and Key cutting premises. Major refurbishment and investment saw the old Joblot Trophy premises become the 3D Shoe Repairs work shop. The Sandersons knocked through into the main retail premises and installed a viewing window. The entire property was transformed into a modern and spacious retail space.
